American Legion Post 295, in collaboration with the Royal British Legion (R.B.L.) and the
Allied Veterans Heritage Foundation, is excited to announce preliminary plans for the
development of our back lot into a comprehensive Veterans Campus. This initiative aims
to construct an Allied War Memorial, Cenotaph, and gardens with walking paths,
enhancing the Post’s commitment to honoring veterans and their families.
Key Features of the Development Plan:
Improvements to Post 295: This includes the creation of a Tri Flag Area with stone walls,
new paving, enhanced building fascia, and museum-grade cabinetry.
Parking and Parade Area: The area will be graded and paved for dual-use as a parking
and parade area, increasing the functionality of the space.
Memorial and Cenotaph: A dedicated space for remembrance, including extensive
landscaping and tree planting to create a serene environment.
Enhanced Accessibility: Foot access from town will be improved, along with the
construction of a new public bathroom maintained and sustained by private funds. The
new bathroom will be part of the Allied Veterans Foundation Hall, which will feature a
clock tower and be accessible on foot to all garden areas.
Creek and Storm Flow Improvement: This aspect of the project will address
environmental concerns and enhance the natural beauty of the area.
Community and Government Collaboration: Steve Carney, representing the Royal
British Legion, and Commander Nickelson presented these preliminary plans to the
Middleburg Town Council. The council expressed great excitement for the partnership
and the positive impact this development will have on the community.
Next Steps:
Coordination with Town Manager Danny Davis and Will Moore is ongoing. The immediate
focus is on developing a detailed design, preparing a site plan, and navigating the
necessary legislative and administrative steps for approval.
