As is tradition, members of American Legion Post 295 in Middleburg, VA, gathered
to watch the highly anticipated 2024 Kentucky Derby on May 4, 2024. The event was filled
with excitement as attendees sipped on traditional Mint Juleps, a beloved drink associated
with the iconic horse race. To add to the festive atmosphere, many participants donned
fancy hats, embracing the Derby’s long-standing tradition of fashionable headwear.
The highlight of the event was the thrilling race itself, with Mystik Dan emerging as the
winning horse. In addition to enjoying the race, Post members participated in a betting
pool, adding a competitive edge to the celebration. This year’s betting pool was won by
Ron Embrey, who took home the prize with his winning pick. The Kentucky Derby viewing
party was a delightful event, filled with camaraderie, tradition, and spirited fun,
highlighting the strong sense of community at Post 295.
