Commander Nickelson presented the initial plans for building improvements
before Middleburg’s Historical Review Committee. The purpose of the presentation was
to start a dialogue with the town about the proposed improvements and address any
potential zoning issues.
Overall, the committee was supportive of the plans and appreciated the direction of the
overall vision. They particularly liked the hardscaped patio, new flag poles, and the
addition of a short stone wall in front of the building. However, the committee expressed
a preference for keeping the existing brick and had negative opinions regarding the
addition of a stone watertable.
There was also concern about the proposed gable in relation to zoning height restrictions.
Mr. Moore, however, assured the committee that this would not be an issue. The meeting
was a productive step towards achieving the Post’s vision for its building improvements.
