American Legion Boys and Girls State programs are a fantastic opportunity for young people to learn about civic engagement and leadership. To select the most qualified candidates for these programs, the American Legion Post 295 conducted interviews with high school students from several local schools. Both programs will be conducted fromĀ Sunday June 18 to Saturday June 24, 2023. Virginia Girls State program is scheduled to be held on the campus of Longwood University and Virginia Boys State will be held on the campus of Radford University.
Seventeen students were accepted from John Champe, Lightridge, Pope John Paul VI, and Freedom High Schools in Loudoun County. These students demonstrated exceptional leadership potential, academic achievement, and a strong commitment to their communities.
The interview process was rigorous and designed to identify those students who would benefit most from participation in the Boys and Girls State programs. The interviews were conducted by a panel of experienced American Legion members, who asked a variety of questions designed to test the student’s knowledge of government, public service, and leadership.
Post 295 is proud to have selected such an outstanding group of young people for the Boys and Girls State programs. We believe that these programs will provide them with valuable experiences and skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.
We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the students who were accepted into the program, and we look forward to seeing the great things they will achieve in the future. We would also like to thank all the educators, parents, and sponsors who encouraged them to pursue opportunities to serve their communities.
