Middleburg’s Veteran’s Appreciation Picnic

After a week postponement due to poor air quality and the threat of rain on the
original date of June 9, 2023, American Legion Post 295 partnered with the Middleburg
Community Center, and Field of Athenry to host Middleburg’s Veterans Appreciation
Picnic. This vibrant event, held at the Community Center’s pool and picnic grounds, was a
heartwarming celebration of summer and a tribute to local veterans.
Legionnaires fired up the grills to serve hotdogs and hamburgers to attendees, creating
an atmosphere filled with camaraderie, and gratitude. The picnic featured live music by
Bryan Fox and Friends, adding a festive and enjoyable ambiance to the gathering. Free
drinks were available, from Tip Top Tap Truck, ensuring everyone stayed refreshed on a
warm summer evening.
One of the highlights of the event was the auction of a patriotic quilt, beautifully
handcrafted by Mary Nickelson-Hill. The auction raised $500, which will support the
ongoing activities and programs of Post 295.
The event was well-attended by veterans, their families, and community members,
reflecting the strong support and appreciation for those who have served and a testament
to the community’s commitment to honoring its veterans.
