A Night To Remember
For over 75 years, American Legion Post 295 has been a staple of Middleburg, VA. As a Veterans organization, helping prior service military members transition back to civilian life, as well as giving service members another chance to serve their community, Legionnaires are always at the ready to come together. The Legion Hall has a special place in the community and memories of residents around town, hosting parties, social events, weddings, rummage sales, bingo, or Friday night hoe downs, it’s difficult to find a resident where the Legion did not play a significant role of their childhood.
This past Friday, the current members of Post 295 paid homage to those who came before them, celebrating 75 years of active service to Middleburg and surrounding community.
The night quickly got off to a rousing start, with a cocktail hour and roaming hors -d’oeuvres. Post 295 Commander, John Molière, opened the event welcoming guests and VIPs, reminiscing about the Legion’s history, the Post’s beginnings, former members, and paying special tribute what is truly important for the future direction of our country, Old Glory.
As the daylight turned to night, laughter was soon heard as the Magician performed his routine in a mix of comedy magic. From card tricks, to predictions, rubiks cube solving, and rapid mental math, all ages, from 4 to 94 were entertained. Guest speaker Brigadier General Daniel Doherty, followed, providing the guests with lessons and wisdom that can only be gained from experience from a long and lustrous military career.
Dinner was served, to the delight of those in attendance, while music, war stories, and jokes about which branch of the military is more superior filled the air. Finally, the night came to a close, but not before cake and coffee was served to wake up the guests before the night was adjourned and the guests were directed home.
Here’s to another 75 years!
